About Austin Musicians Housing Initative

Mission Statement

The mission of AMHI is to ensure that working musicians and support technicians in the music industry are able to obtain sound, affordable housing and support facilities.

As musicians, lovers of music and people who appreciate that music is social medicine, we formed Austin Musicians' Housing Initiative to ensure that the vitality of Austin's musical life will continue and grow. In the Spring of 2004 we helped establish the Austin Music Co-op at 5413 Guadalupe St. which became the home of 23 active young musicians. Although, in the end, the building which we were leasing was only temporarily available, the co-op flourished for more than two years.

Since that time, AMHI has been working with wide range of city planners, public policy and public health analysts, consumer co-op consultants and other experts to find solutions for affordable live-work space for Austin's musicians. We are currently working with a number of independent live-work developments for musicians' to nurture their progress and find new ways to collaborate. More on those later as new alliances are formed.

If you would like to join us in working to support the vitality of Austin's musical scene and helping to keep them calling our city "the Live Music Capital of the World", please contact us for more information, volunteer opportunities or to sign up for announcements.
